This track was influenced by Burial, with the aim of exploring atmospheric production and textural layering within a UK bass context. To achieve this, I used heavily swung, textured drum patterns, combined with deep Reese bass to emulate Burial’s rhythmic looseness and bass-emphasis. Vocal sampling is integral in Burials productions, with tracks such as Archangel borrowing hip-hop vocals and manipulating them to fit in his production style. I included a sample from Money for Nothing by Dire Straits that I time-stretched and processed so it functioned both as an ambient texture as well as a lead vocal. Doing so allowed me to explore how vocal material can be recontextualised within a dub-influenced framework.
